WCUR | Voyageurs OUA Championship Run Ends in Quarter Finals

After completing the round robin with a perfect 4-0 record over the course of the first two days of the OUA Championships the host Laurentian Voyageurs would begin Championship Sunday as the number one seed and a quarter final matchup with the Queen's Gaels.
The Voyageurs had already played Queen's in the round robin coming away with a tightly contested 7-6 win. The game however was extremely close all throughout their first meeting meaning this match would be no easy task for the hometown Vees.
The first end didn't quite go according to plan as starting with the hammer Laurentian gave up a one point steal the Gaels but managed to get things back on track in ends two and three taking a 2-1 lead. From there though momentum shifted back towards Queen's as they matched the previous ends with back to back point in ends five and six retaking their lead.
The Voyageurs best end of the game ended up being the sixth as for the first time all game the Voyageurs managed to pick up two points in end six with the hammer to retake the lead. In the seventh Queen's retook the hammer and utilized it to tie the game back up going into the final end.
Laurentian had the hammer in the eighth and final end but just could not seem to get their shots right, leaving skip Bella Croisier in a tough spot with her final rock and to pull off an extremely difficult shot to win the game. Unfortunately for Laurentian though Queen's would come away with the steal in the final end giving them the victory and ending Laurentian's hopes at back to back OUA Championships.
The loss would mark the end of the tournament for the Voyageurs going 4-1 overall on the weekend but falling at the quarter final stage of the medal rounds. Laurentian skip Bella Croisier was named to the first-team all star team marking herself as one the best players over the course of the weekend.
Laurentian will have another shot at a curling banner next weekend when the men's team make their way to Guelph for their OUA Championship tournament with a shot at the U SPORTS national tournament on the line.
