Laurentian's track and field team kicked off the 2022-23 indoor season by competing at the Bob Vigars Season Opener hosted by Western University in London this past weekend.

The Voyageur were led by newcomer and MBA student, Tre Ford (Niagara Falls), who placed 4th in the men's 60 metre sprint in a time of 7.07 seconds.  In the same race, second year architecture student, Tristan Routhier (Saint-Sixte, QC), placed 8th in a new personal best of 7.18 seconds. With these early season marks, both athletes have qualified to compete at the OUA Championships in Windsor in February.

Routhier also placed 7th in the men's 200 metre event in a time of 23.78 seconds.

On the women's side, three Voyageurs competed in the 60 metres. Second year kinesiology student, Naomi Palmer (Sudbury), placed 17th with a time of 8.51 seconds.  Rookie and social work student, Jessy Trottier (Hanmer), placed 23rd in 8.89 seconds. Fifth year education student, Shanica Thomas (Ottawa), placed 25th in 8.97 seconds.

"The sprint squad had a solid start to the season.  We hope to add a few more OUA qualifiers over the next few months from this group. We have developed general sprint fitness and strength over the fall and will now focus on specific race elements as we head into the winter" noted Assistant Coach, Alexandre Noel de Tilly.

The Indoor Track and Field Team will return to action in January, competing at the University of Toronto Open on January 7th.
