Over the weekend, four members of the indoor track and field team travelled to Boston to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. The meet is one of the largest in North America, hosting teams from over 500 universities across the United States and Canada.

On the men's side, second-year nursing student Brandon Radey established a new school record in the men's 400-metre event, finishing with a time of 51.17 seconds. Fifth-year psychology student Keon Wallingford ran the mile in 4:20.95, which places him #2 all-time at Laurentian in this event.

On the women's side, third-year nursing student Kristen Mrozewski ran a new personal best in the 1000-metre event with a time of 2:56.37. She is now ranked 18th in the OUA this season and #3 all-time at Laurentian. Fourth-year ADVL student Sarah Booth also competed in the 1000-metre event, taking three seconds off her personal best with a time of 3:01.65.

"It's well known that the indoor track at Boston University is one of the fastest in North America and our crew definitely took advantage of that this weekend," noted head coach Darren Jermyn.

"Both Kristen and Sarah did an excellent job establishing their position and raced well in the later stages to earn new personal bests. Brandon was a bit more conservative on his first lap but stormed home in the last 50 metres to break the school record in the 400-metre event. Keon ran well despite coming off illness that limited his training over the past two weeks. We know he can run much faster but still emptied the tank this weekend," said Jermyn.

The Voyageurs will compete at the Hal Brown Memorial meet hosted by the University of Toronto this upcoming weekend. This will be the final meet of the OUA regular season before the provincial championships in Windsor on February 23-24.
