TRK | Six Voyageurs Qualify for OUA Championships at Windsor Meet

The Laurentian Voyageurs track & field team travelled to Windsor, ON this past weekend to compete at the 42nd Annual Windsor Can-Am Classic hosted by the University of Windsor. Six Vees achieved the OUA Championship standard and qualified to compete at the provincial meet at the end of February.
The Vees were led by fifth year psychology student Keon Wallingford (North Bay), who set a new personal best in the 3,000 metres with a time of 8 minutes 34.24 seconds, placing him fourth in the event. Wallingford's time also moves him in the #4 spot on Laurentian's all-time rankings in the event and qualifies him to compete at the OUA Championships.
Fourth year nursing student Kristen Mrozewski (Sudbury) and fifth year education student Sarah Booth (Peterborough) both eclipsed the OUA standard in the women's 1,000 metre event. Mrozewski placed 11th in 3:03.75, and Booth placed 12th in 3:03.86. Third year criminology student Shelley Hladin (Chartierville, QC) surpassed the OUA standard in the women's long jump for a second time this season with a best jump of 5.23 metres, placing her 15th. Rounding out the OUA qualifiers were third year nursing student, Brandon Radey (Sudbury), who ran 2:36.04 in the men's 1,000 metre event, good for 20th place; and first year kinesiology student Alissa Diavolitsis (Sudbury) who ran 42.99 in the women's 300 metre event, also placing 20th.
"Despite it being our first meet after the holidays, we had some very solid performances this weekend", noted head coach, Darren Jermyn. "We held a training camp on campus over the break and it provided us with additional time to prepare for the season. We are also developing our depth across the three relay events so it was great to see some success in our long sprints and middle distance events. We are up to twelve athletes qualified for the OUA Championships so we are making solid progress on that front."
The Vees will travel to Montreal in two weeks to compete at the McGill Team Challenge.
