The Varsity indoor track and field team travelled to Montreal this past weekend to take part in the McGill Team Challenge. This competition hosted over 700 athletes from 48 different universities and track and field clubs from Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.

On the women's side, first-year Criminology student Shelley Hladin started off strong for the Voyageurs, earning a sixth-place finish in the women's triple jump, with a best performance of 10.94 metres. She also placed seventh in the women's long jump, jumping 5.34 metres.

Onto the men, fifth-year Psychology student Keon Wallingford placed seventh in the men's 3000 metres, setting a new personal best of 8:36.70. Third-year Architecture student Tristan Routhier placed seventh in the men's 300 metres, setting a new personal best of 35.70 seconds. Lastly, second-year Nursing student Brandon Radey was the latest athlete to qualify for the OUA Championships with a performance of 36.82 seconds in the men's 300 metres. This time places him #4 all-time in Laurentian school history.

"We purposely backed off on the intensity of our workouts last week to be fairly rested for meet this weekend, and it definitely paid off" noted Head Coach Darren Jermyn.

"McGill hosts an excellent meet and with the depth of competition in each event, our athletes were pushed to their limits, and this led to a slew of personal bests across all our event groups. Shelley was solid in the jumps again and it was great to see Brandon get his breakthrough in the 300m. Tristan and Keon both have their sights set on breaking some longstanding school records this season and their results this weekend demonstrate they are definitely on the right path to do so," Jermyn said.

The Voyageurs will compete at the York Open next weekend, hosted by York University.
