TRK | Routhier Wins Gold at York Holiday Open

The Laurentian varsity track and field team travelled to York University this past weekend to compete at the York Holiday Open Indoor Track & Field meet. The Vees were led by fourth year architecture student, Tristan Routhier (Saint Sixte, QC) who won gold in the men's 300 metre event in a time of 35.75 seconds. Routhier's time was just five one-hundredths off his personal best and qualifies him for the OUA championships at the end of the season.
The Laurentian men also saw OUA qualifying marks in the men's 60 metres from second year criminology student Josh Kim (Sudbury) and fifth year education student Skyler Savage-Perreault (Sudbury). Kim ran 7.35 seconds in the heats and then 7.26 seconds in the final, placing 10th. Savage-Perreault ran 7.25 seconds in the heats and 7.27 seconds in the final, placing 12th. First year sport psychology student Evan Jarvis (Sydenham) narrowly missed the OUA qualifying mark in the 300 metre event but ran an impressive season opener of 36.91, good for sixth place.
On the women's side, Laurentian was led by second year criminology student Shelley Hladin (Chartierville, QC) who set an OUA qualifying mark in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.24 metres – good for 7th place. First year kinesiology student Alissa Diavolitsis (Sudbury) narrowly missed the OUA qualifying mark in the 300 metres with her time of 43.37 seconds, which placed her fourth overall.
"We are very really pleased with our team's fortitude today. With the challenging weather conditions, we arrived with limited time for a full warmup but everyone got down to business and the OUA qualifying performances started rolling in", noted Vees Assistant and Lead Sprints and Jumps Coach, Jim Taylor. "We were really impressed with how our rookies ran and jumped today and to see how supportive the entire team was of each other during competition. It was also great to see veteran Tristan Routhier kick his season off with a gold medal in the 300m. The LU school record is definitely in his sights this season."
