WBB | Voyageurs Finish 1-2 in Final Pre-Season Weekend at McGill

The Voyageurs women’s basketball team hit the road for more pre-season action as they headed to McGill University to take on the Waterloo Warriors, Dalhousie Tigers and the host Redmen.

In their 59-44 loss to McGIll on Friday night, the Voyageurs were led by veteran, Adriane Bruni who collected a team-high 12 points, three rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes, while fourth-year, L’Ashante Henry, chipped in with 11 points.

Saturday was a different story for the Voyageurs as they won the battle on the boards with a game-high 39 total rebounds. Bruni exploded offensively as she raked in 25 points and four rebounds in 27 minutes, while Mackenzie Robinson chipped in with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes.

In Sunday’s contest, the teams went back and forth offensively with the Voyageurs holding the lead for much of the first half. The Tigers, however, would chip away at the lead eventually tying it up heading into the half with a 28-28 draw. It was much of the same story in the second half as the Tigers took the lead this time and the Voyageurs chipped away at the lead, however, they came up just short in the last minute to take the tough 72-69 loss.

The Voyageurs are in action again this weekend as they head to St. Catharines to take on the Brock Badgers, Western Mustangs and Nipissing Lakers. First game is set for 8pm on Friday night.

Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 23 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 62 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 54 years of competition.
