The Laurentian Women's basketball team continued their regular season with a trip to face off against the McMaster Marauders on Friday night, ending up on the wrong end of the score line, 72-59, in a hard fought game.

The start of the game was met with high energy from both Laurentian and McMaster which brought a very entertaining matchup. Both sides exchanged baskets early on but a high number of turnovers (six in total) over the course of the first ten minutes allowed the Marauders to convert on unforced Laurentian errors to build an 18-12 lead after the first.

In the second, Laurentian began to struggle from the field, hitting just four out of an attempted 21 shots in the quarter. However, a combination of strong defense and the ability to get to the free throw line eight times in the quarter allowed them to limit the bleeding. The Voyageurs equaled McMaster in scoring 17-17 in the quarter and trailed by just six points heading into the second half, with a score of 35-29.

The third quarter was Laurentian's best. After starting it off somewhat cold from the field, they went on a massive 12-0 run midway through the third, headlined by a huge and-one from Bailey Tabin with four minutes to go. The Voyageurs out-rebounded McMaster 15-11 in the quarter, limited their turnovers to just three and, most importantly, outscored the Marauders 23-20 allowing them to be within striking distance, down just three at a score of 55-52 heading into the fourth.

In the end, though, it just didn't seem like it was meant to be for Laurentian who would end up coming just short in the final ten minutes as McMaster were able to limit the Voyageurs to seven points in the fourth and would come away with a 72-59 victory.

Laurentian standout performers on the night were Bailey Tabin, who put up 19 points and an outstanding 18 rebounds on the day, as well as Sydney Tabin, who put up 12 points and nine rebounds of her own.

The Voyageurs round out their road trip with a game against the York Lions on Saturday night where they will look for their 5th win of the season against a tough Lions squad.
