WBB - Voyageurs defeated by #1 ranked Ravens

The women's basketball team hosted the Carleton Ravens on Friday night in the Ben Avery. The Voyageurs dropped the game against the number one ranked team in the country, 76-44.

To start off the game, both teams were scoreless in the first two minutes. The Ravens dropped the first basket of the game, with a quick answer from Voyageurs guard Lauren Robertson-Martin who scored a layup. The Ravens upped their score with 9 more points, while Emilie Lafond scored the second and third layups of the game for the Voyageurs. At the end of the quarter, the Voyageurs were trailing Carleton 23-11.

In the second quarter, both teams were scoreless for two minutes once again. Lafond scored two free throws and a layup, and Claudia Pellerin scored 5 points to add to Laurentian's score. Halfway through the quarter, the Ravens' offence defended their number one ranking, doubling them up. Lafond scored a combination of 4 more points, while Pellerin made two free throws to end scoring for the Voyageurs going into the half.

Coming back from the half, Aneisha Rismond netted a jump shot, and Lafond added another layup on the board. Later in the quarter, Monica Jean-Baptiste, Molly Adams and Lafond scored 7 points together, ending the quarter 60-39, with the Ravens still in the lead.

In the last ten minutes, Pellerin scored the first layup of the quarter, followed by 2 points from Raffaella Balestra a few minutes later. The Voyageurs were defeated by the Ravens 76-44 to conclude their first game of the weekend at home.

The standout performers of the game were Emilie Lafond with 19 points and 5 rebounds, and Claudia Pellerin with 10 points.

The women are back in action on Saturday night, as they host the uOttawa Gee-Gees at 6pm.
