The women's basketball team hosted the Algoma Thunderbirds on Sunday afternoon. The Voyageurs were coming off a tough loss against the Badgers but were able to bounce back and claim a 70-46 victory.

In the first quarter, Princess Bernardino scored 3 points for the Voyageurs, followed by Audrey-Anne Labreche who netted her own 3-point shot. As a result of a good matchup between the two teams, they were both scoreless until the third-minute mark, where Aneisha Rismond scored three layups and a free throw, and Megan Axiak scored a 3-pointer and a jump shot to end the quarter. The Voyageurs were ahead 18-5 going into the next quarter.

In the second quarter, Axiak and Labreche netted another 3-point shot each, and Emilie Lafond scored her first 2 points of the game. With five minutes to go, Melanie Cloutier scored a layup and a jump shot, followed by three free throws from Lauren Robertson-Martin. While the Thunderbirds caught up, the Voyageurs were only up by two points going into the second half.

Coming back from halftime, Lafond had two layups in the first minute, which led to a timeout call by Algoma. In an attempt to drive to the net, Claudia Pellerin got fouled, resulting in two made free throws. Lafond scored 6 points in two minutes, Amber May scored her first jump shot and Rismond added another 2 to the board. In the last two minutes, Cloutier and Adams made a combination of 3 points, helping Laurentian get back on track with a 53-46 lead.

The fourth quarter was packed with several points from the Voyageurs and a perfect defense. To start, Rismond made a single free throw, Adams scored two free throws and Labreche netted another 3-pointer. With three minutes to go in the game, Laurentian called a timeout to strategize and figure out a play, which was deemed successful after a 3-pointer from Pellerin. Labreche got fouled shortly after, leading to two successful free throws and Adams scored two 3-point shots to finish the game. The Voyageurs took the win 70-46 on home court.

The standout performers were Emilie Lafond with 12 points and 5 rebounds, Audrey-Anne Labreche with 11 points and 8 rebounds, and Aneisha Rismond with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

The women are back in action on Saturday, as they host the Guelph Gryphons in their last game of the regular season. Tip off is scheduled for 4pm in the Ben Avery.
