On Sunday morning, the women's basketball team went up against the University of New Brunswick Reds, to conclude the Dr. Carolyn Savoy preseason tournament in Halifax. The Voyageurs ended up dropping the last game 99-53.

The Reds opened up the scoring with a jump shot, followed by a layup made by Sudbury native Emilie Lafond. The game contained lots of back and forth, with both teams keeping up with each other in the first five minutes. After a timeout call in the last two minutes, the Reds got organized and scored numerous points, making it fairly difficult for the Voyageurs to keep up. They took the lead 26-15 at the end of the first quarter.

After a short break, the Reds came on the court looking for more opportunities to add to the score, proven by a 3-point shot made fifteen seconds into the quarter. The Vees were scoreless until the 4-minute mark, where Princess Bernardino made a three-point shot herself. However, by this time, the Reds had almost doubled their lead, making it 43-26 going into the half.

Although the Voyageurs had to play catch up in the next half of the game, they refused to let up, with a combination of 14 points being made by Rileigh Smith, Molly Adams, Amber May and Lauren Robertson-Martin to add to their side of the scoreboard. With momentum on their side, the Reds kept finding ways around the Voyageurs' defence, ending the third quarter with a score of 71-40.

In the last ten minutes, the blue and gold added another 6 points to the board in the first minute, with two 3-point jump shots made by Amber May. With UNB's field goal percentage being 52.6%, this made it difficult for Laurentian to catch up, as they made 28 points in the last quarter. The Reds won the game with a score of 99-53

The standout performers included Calgary native Amber May with 17 points, Brampton native Rileigh Smith with 13 points and 5 rebounds and Molly Adams with 5 points herself.

The Voyageurs are back in action next weekend in the nation's capital as they take on Carleton University Saturday afternoon and Saint Mary's Sunday afternoon to wrap up preseason play.
