WBB - Voyageurs drop last game of the weekend to Gaels

To close out opening weekend, the Voyageurs headed to Kingston to take on the Queen's Gaels on Friday. The Voyageurs started off strong but eventually lost 72-45.

Voyageurs' forward Rileigh Smith opened up scoring for the team, followed by Claudia Pellerin, and Lauren Robertson-Martin with a combination of 7 points in the first four minutes. As a result of aggressive and tight defence, the Gaels only got 3 points past the Voyageurs five minutes into the game. The Voyageurs ended the first quarter with a lead of 2 points over the Gaels.

In the second quarter, the Gaels added 25 points to their side of the board, while Laurentian added 10, ultimately giving the Gaels the lead going into the half.

To start off the second half, Smith, Lafond, and Melanie Cloutier made a combination of 10 points in the first five minutes, getting closer to the Gaels' score. The Gaels had the lead 43-38 going into the last quarter. Molly Adams, Amber May and Cloutier made 7 points in the last ten minutes, but the Voyageurs ended up losing the game 72-45.

The standout performers were Claudia Pellerin and Emilie Lafond with 8 points each, Rileigh Smith with 6 points and 8 rebounds and Melanie Cloutier with 6 points and 5 rebounds.

The Voyageurs are back on the court for their home opener against the Queens Gaels on Friday, November 10th. Tip off is set for 6pm.
