Saturday night the Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team welcomed the Toronto Varsity Blues into town where they would come out victorious with a 74-64 win at Ben Avery Gym.

The first quarter started with some key defensive stops for the Voyageurs.  They created seven turnovers in the first ten minutes, which leapfrogged their play on the offensive end to end up with 18 total points at the end of the quarter. However, they could not pull away due to the outstanding shooting of Varsity Blues sharpshooter Lauren Boers, who went 4-5 from the field in quarter to keep Toronto in it at 18-12 after one.

In the second, the Voyageurs began to let the game slip a little bit. The defense allowed easy scoring for the opposition at times and the offense again struggled, shooting just 15% from the field in the quarter and shooting just 1-6 from beyond the arc as they ended the half down 34-29.

Lately the Voyageurs have had a tough time in the 3rd quarter games but this was not the case against Toronto. Laurentian came out flying in the second half with high-energy defense that fed into the offense that seemed to have come to life. Sydney Tabin and Bailey Tabin led the way with 8 and 10 points in the quarter respectively. They scored a game high in a quarter with 27 points in the third while limiting U of T to just 13, putting the Vees up by nine going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was just about not letting Toronto get on a run to put themselves back in contention to win the game. Laurentian did a fantastic job of scoring when they needed to and continuing to come up with important stops when on defense and as the clock hit 0, the Laurentian Voyageurs had defeated the Varsity Blues by a score of 74-64

Tonight's key performers included Sydney Tabin's double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while, off the bench, Bailey Tabin had a 16-12 double-double and Amber May put up 14 points, going 4-6 from deep.

Laurentian improves to 3-5 on the year and are home again Friday and Saturday when they welcome Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier to the Ben Avery.
