WBB | Robinson Named OUA Tracy MacLeod Award Recipient

The OUA handed out their all-stars and major award winners for the 2018-19 season and, despite not having an all-star in their midst, the Voyageurs do have the winner of one of the most prestigious awards the league gives out.

The Tracy MacLeod award is given to a player who demonstrates determination, perseverance, and unwavering spirit.  As a member of the Brandon University Bobcats, MacLeod broke her lower leg during a game in 1993. Five months after the accident, and after numerous surgeries, she had her leg amputated eight inches below the knee. Defying all odds, she was back on the court less than three months later, playing with an artificial limb.

Mackenzie Robinson has been a steady presence on the court this season for the Voyageurs (10.1 PPG, 7.4 RPG) and much of that presence comes from the strength she has accrued off of it after feeling the effects of a major personal loss. Before joining Laurentian, Robinson’s mother had taken her own life, leaving her with a wide range of emotions and decisions to deal with in both the short and long-term. Since that time and throughout her journey at Laurentian, Robinson has continued to take steps to learn and grow as a person, both on and off the court. And after dealing with the things she did, it is clear that the Collingwood, ON native epitomizes the determination, perseverance, and unwavering spirit that this award represents.
