MHKY | Fitze Propels Voyageurs To Come From Behind Win
On Sunday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team, led by Dylan Fitze's three-goals effort, topped the UOIT Ridgebacks 3-2 to split the weekend with one win and one loss.
 
The Ridgebacks opened the scoring on the powerplay at 4:42 when Loren Ulett found the back of the net behind Mackenzie Savard. Fitze answered immediately after for the Voyageurs at 5:08, tying the game at 1-1. Jacob Smith assisted on the goal.
 
Near the end of the first frame, Alex Yuill regained the Ridgeback's lead at 15:28, putting UOIT up 2-1 heading into the first intermission. Both teams had 11 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes. 
 
The second period was goalless, despite both teams having a powerplay opportunity each and Laurentian outshooting UoIT 10-6.
 
The third period was all Fitze, who scored his second of the game at 9:45 on a play assisted by Richard Therrien and Tyler Shaw to tie the game at 2-2. Fitze would then complete the hat-trick and all but seal the deal for the Vees with his third goal at 17:37. Fitze's third goal was assited by Derek Varrin and Nicolas Thommen
 
With the 3-2 victory, the Voyageurs now sit two points out of the eigth and final playoff spot in their division. The Vees are back in action next weekend as they host RMC and Queen's.
