MHKY | Dionne's Double Not Enough As Gaels Down Voyageurs
The Laurentian Voyageurs kicked off this November 16th and 17th set of games in the city of Kingston facing the Queen Gaels.
The Voyageurs are hot off a three game win streak with a total of eleven goals but unfortunately losing the win streak against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Clearly looking forward to bounce back and get back onto a win streak the Vees came hot off the press against the Gaels with the entire offensive success coming in the first period.
Nicolas Dionne would be the Vee that would pot both goals against the Gaels and as well giving him his eleventh goal in just ten games which is almost double the amount of goals the Voyageurs captain had in twenty-eight games in his previous seasons.
Nicolas Dionne would score his first goal half way through the period with his line-mate Richard Therrian who has assisted almost every goal coming from the Voyageurs captain. In just eleven games Therrian has fifteen points, stemming from five goals and ten assists.
The second goal from Dionne would be a top corner shot from the hashmarks to beat the Gaels' goalie, Justin Fazio. Zack Wilkie and Xavier Couture would be the ones to pick up the assists on Dionne's eleventh goal.
Mackenzie Savard would be the goaltender to take on the Gaels and relieving the Voyageurs Michael Gigouvaz who had been the starting goalie for the Vees. Savard would face a total of fifty-two shots from the Gaels but unfortunately the Gaels offensive power would be too much for the Vees to handle in late game.
Starting off in the second period Graeme Brown would score in the last seconds of a power play that resulted off a Voyageurs hooking penalty. This goal would start the offensive motor for the Gaels and eventually give them the upper hand against the Vees.
The third period would see two goals but neither belonged to the Voyageurs. Ben Fanjoy and Slater Doggetts would be accredited the second and third unanswered goals for the Gaels that would bring them to a lead of one over the Voyageurs.
The Vees would have fifteen minutes after Doggetts to either tie the game or win the game but neither option ensued and the Vees fell undeservingly to the Queen's Gales, 3-2.
The Voyageurs have a 4-7 record after this evening's game and they play the Royal Military College tomorrow at 7pm in hopes to bring them to a 5-7 record as we close in on December.
