On Friday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team lost an overtime thriller to Lakehead 4-3.
Lakehead opened the scoring midway through the first period, when Billy Jenkins scored on the power play at 13:01. The Vees responded just before the end of the first frame on a power play of their own, when Nicolas Dionne scored, with assists going to Caleb Apperson and Dylan Fitze at 19:28 of the first period.
The Voyageurs took their first lead of the game early in the second when Brent Pedersen scored to go up 2-1. Pedersen's goal was assisted by Elliot Richardson and Charlie Millen. Lakehead responded seven minutes later when Matt Alexander beat Millen to tie the game at two.
The Voyageurs again hit the ice hard in the third period, which paid off in the form of Brad MacDonald scoring at 9:02. MacDonald's goal, assisted by Nick Esposto and Tyler Shaw, gave the Vees a 3-2 lead. With three minutes remaining, Lakehead tied the game on the power play as Brennen Dubchak scored to even the game.
Lakehead would complete the comeback early in overtime when Billy Jenkins scored his second of the night to seal the deal.
The Vees are back on the ice tomorrow as they play Lakehead for the second time in as many nights.
