MHKY | Voyageurs Sting Concordia
The Laurentian Men's hockey team concluded their weekend with a game against the Concordia Stingers this January 19th.
The last time the Vees played Concordia they held them until forty-six seconds into overtime for a Stingers win.
Tonight's game was a big game for the Vees as it is a winnable match and crucial for Voyageurs standings.
A much more relaxed match to the say the least as the previous match up was riddled with penalties.
The first period was a lockout by both teams as neither team was able to solve the Vees' Mackenzie Savard and Concordia's Marc-Antoine Turcottee.
Derek Varrin would be the Voyageurs to break the scoring silence as he would take just three minutes to solve Turcotte. Xavier Couture and Luke McCaw would assist the first goal of the game.
The Stingers wouldn't take long to answer back though, as Hugo Roy would be accredited the equalizer with the help of Philippe Hudon just two minutes later.
The third period was another action packed twenty-minutes. The Voyageurs came out looking like a team that was ready to leave it all on the table, which they did.
Marc Antoine-Gagnon scored his first OUA goal ever against Concordia just five minutes in with the help of Derek Varrin for his second point of the night and as well Jacob Smith.
This goal put the Vees up 2-1 and consequently put Concordia in a sticky situation and a last ditch effort to score for an equalizer. After pulling Turcottee, McCaw would be the Voyageur to pot the empty net goal with the help of Jarret Meyer at 18:47.
A two goal lead Concordia was challenged with later in the third period but Bradley Lalonde silenced the Laurentian cheers quietly as he beat Mackenzie Savard with just 30 seconds left to bring them in reach of a tie.
The Vees would rally quickly as Haydn Hopkins took it upon himself to add one more insurance goal into the Stingers empty net making for a final of 4-2 with the help of his captain Nicolas Dionne for his first ever OUA goal as well.
A big win for Vees and improving their record to 5-15 and a win streak of one. They will look to carry the momentum into the home barns of Queen's and RMC January 25th and 26th.
