The Voyageurs men's soccer team continued the 2018-2019 Riley Gallo Cup and 705 Challenge Cup with an impressive 2-0 victory over the Nipissing Lakers.
It was a testy affair between the two arch rivals as a grand total of seven yellow cards were handed out amongst them. The Voyageurs opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the game when fifth year forward, Evan Stronach, scored with an assist from Roman Lovrencec.
The Lakers had numerous chances to get a tally on the scoreboard but were unable to solve the reigning OUA East-First Team All-Star goalkeeper Connor Vande Weghe as he held on to record his first clean sheet of the season. The Voyageurs added insurance in the 88th minute of the game when Carver Grenon scored with an assist from Kristian Shuttleworth.
The Voyageurs will now look to sweep the home-and-home series when they host Nipissing Sunday afternoon at 2:15 pm at the Laurentian Soccer Field.
