MSOC | Voyageurs Trample Excalibur

MSOC | Voyageurs Trample Excalibur

The Voyageurs continued their dominating play on Saturday afternoon by beating the Trent Excalibur by a score of 5-1.

Scoring started early when both teams traded a goal. As play went on, Laurentian was the more offensive side, controlling the ball and playing in the Excalibur territory. Their persistence would pay off in the 20th minute of the game when a cross from Roman Lovrencec found the cleats of Jacob Gramegna who very confidently deposited the ball at the back of the net. This go-ahead goal reinvigorated the Voyageurs who knew now, that if this scoreline held, their chances of making the playoffs would substantially increase. But, they were not contempt with a 2-1 scoreline. Just a few minutes later, Augustus Oku found himself in a breakthrough situation. He would travel into the penalty box and very cleverly cross the ball to Carver Grenon who would not make a mistake in putting the ball at the back of the net. Next, an unfortunate bounce in the 43rd minute of the game put the Vees up 4-1. Finally, the Vees had a couple of good scoring opportunities late in the half but were unable to convert. The first half would come to an end with a score of 4-1.

The Excalibur came out with a more offensive mindset in the second but the Voyageurs defence held its ground. However, as the half progressed, both teams were on even footing in terms of ball possession and shots but neither was able to take advantage. But the Voyageurs earned a penalty shot at the 53rd minute of the game, which eventually allowed the Voyageurs to go up 5-1. In the end, the Voyageurs would not look back and hold on to beat the Trent Excalibur by a score of 5-1.

The Voyageurs return to action next Saturday when they host the Queen's Gaels at the Laurentian Soccer Field at 2:15pm.
