MSOC | Late Goal Forces Voyageurs To Settle For Tie

The men's soccer team opened their season with a home game against the Trent Excalibur.  In a back and forth affair, a late Excalibur goal forced the Voyageurs to settle for a 2-2 draw.

The game opened up at a fairly high pace with chances each way.  In the 15th minute, after taking an inadvertent elbow to the face, Jaiden Santo found Nico Patenaude's corner at his feet and walked the ball across the line for a 1-0 lead with his first OUA goal.  Santo was forced to leave the game for repairs but his tally stood tall through the rest of the half and the Voyageurs took a 1-0 lead into half.

In the second half, a goal line scramble in the 54th minute finally saw Brandon Chicoy poke the ball across the line after multiple failed clearing attempts by the Voyageurs to tie things up at 1.  Thirteen minutes later, Eddy Opoku-Dapaah buried a Timi Aliu cross from a sharp angle to put the Voyageurs back in front.  That lead looked like it would hold up until the 84th minute when the Excalibur were awarded a throw-in just 10 yards from the touch line.  Chicoy's long throw landed perfectly at the foot of Noah Van Drine, who drove the ball home to knot things up at 2.  Despite a few late close calls, neither team could find the back of the net and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Voyageurs hit the pitch again on Saturday when they visit the Nipissing Lakers in the first half of a home and home.
