MSOC | Voyageurs Lose Heartbreaker in 2OT

The Voyageurs men's soccer team had a thrilling end to their season on Wednesday night as they took their first round playoff game into double overtime against the UOIT Ridgebacks.

Voyageurs goalkeeper and the OUA's league leader in saves (102) was at it again as Connor Vande Weghe denied nine Ridgeback shots to keep the score knotted at zeros throughout regular time. Ridgebacks keeper, Nicholas Miller, was equal to the task as he shut down the Voyageurs offense who managed to get off five shots and generate some strong offensive pushes during the course of the game. Without either team finding the back of the net through 90 minutes, the game was sent to extra time to find out who would advance to the quarter-finals.

The first set of extra time began with a Voyageurs offensive strike from Evan Stronach which was pushed aside from Miller. Five minutes later, the Ridgebacks were on the offensive but a defensive save by Nicholas Correa kept the score tied. Stronach had another chance in the dying seconds of OT but missed just wide to send it to another round of extra time. After 8 minutes, Ridgebacks striker, Fabio Campoli found the back of the net to put his team up 1-0. The Voyageurs did their best to push the offense and try to send it to penalty kicks but Miller put up a wall to end the game and secure the advance for the Ridgebacks.

The Voyageurs end the season with an 8-8-1 record.
