MSOC | Voyageurs Trample Paladins

MSOC | Voyageurs Trample Paladins

The Voyageurs men's soccer team enjoyed their most successful outing of the season on Saturday when they beat the RMC Paladins by a score of 5-0.

Statistically, both teams appeared to be evenly matched throughout the match but Voyageurs were the only ones to get on the scoreboard. Augustus Oku opened the scoring in the 26th minute of the match when he scored an unassisted goal and his third goal of the campaign. This was followed by Kristian Shuttleworth's unassisted marker just three minutes later in the 29th minute of the match. Moving on, regardless of offensive pressure, the Voyageurs were unable to add to their tally and the half came to an end with the Voyageurs holding the upper hand with a two goal lead.

In the second half, the Paladins came out to play as they recorded more shots on goal than the Voyageurs (7-4) but nothing fruitful came of them. Conversely, the Voyageurs converted three of their four shots on goals into goals. The first came in the 67th minute courtesy of an unassisted goal by assistant captain Jacob Gramegna. The second goal was scored by first year defencemen Brandon Moxam in the 72nd minute who scored unassisted to record his first University career goal and put the Voyageurs up 4-0. Finally, the captain, Nicholas Correa scored on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute to seal the deal and the Voyageurs left Navy Bay stadium with a 5-0 victory.

The Voyageurs currently sit in fifth position in the Eastern Conference and occupy a playoff spot with Nipissing and Queen's on their tail as they all contain the same number of points. The Voyageurs will now turn their attention towards the aforementioned Queen's Gaels tomorrow as they look to add some distance between themselves and their competitors. Kick off is scheduled for 2:15 pm.
