WHKY | Voyageurs Lose a Close Battle Against Gryphons, 3-1

On Saturday aftenroon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team lost a spirited battle to the Guelph Gryphons 3-1.

Saturday's game was a battle between two of this year's top teams and a Voyageur team looking to avenge last year's playoff ousting by the Gryphons.

The Gryphons got off to the start they wanted when Kelly Gribbons beat Laura Deller at 3:36 of the first period. Gribbons' goal would be the only goal of the period. Despite heading into the dressing room down 1-0, the Voyageurs dominated Guelph outshooting them 13-5.
The Vees got on the board early in the second period as Morgan McCann found the back of the net just 1:14 into the second with assists going to Kennedy Lanktree and Ellery Veerman
The Gryphons had an answer for the Vees at 9:24 of the second when Claire Merrick restored the Gryphons one goal lead.
Unfortunately for the Vees, they wouldn't be able to score in the third period either and the Gryphons would add another goal late.
Despite the loss, the Voyageurs put together a solid effort and outplayed the Gryphons for almost the full 60 minutes. Although the Vees outchanced the Gryphons, Guelph capitalized on more opportunities and won the game. For two weekends in a row, the Voyageurs proved themselves to be a force to be reckoned with by giving the top teams in the OUA a run for their money.
The Voyageurs are back in action tomorrow when they host Brock at 1:50 PM.
