WHKY | Voyageurs Complete Six Point Weekend with 4-1 Win over U of T

On Sunday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team completed a six point weekend winning their second game in as many days with a 4-1 victory over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.

The Vees did not get the start they wanted, surrendering the first goal just 36 seconds into the game. Taylor Day was able to find an opening between Karen Collins pad and the post and stuffed in the first goal of the game.
Despite a slow first period, the Vees were a completely different team in the second. Morgan McCann scored her second goal in as many games at 2:31 of the second frame to tie the game. McCann's goal was assisted by Taylor Weber & Brooklyn Davis. McCann's game-tying goal would be the only goal of the period, despite Laurentian outshooting U of T 10-4.
The Voyageur offence kicked into high gear in the third period, scoring three goals to put the game out of reach. Marie-Pierre Pelissou pounced on a rebound after a scrum in front of the net, giving the Vees a 2-1 lead.
Then, at 15:18 of the third, Jessica Staats finished off a beautiful play set up by the hard work of Ellery Veerman to give the Vees a two goal lead. Taylor Philip also picked up an assist on Staats goal.
Maggie Brennan put the game out of reach with her empty net tally at 18:33 of the third period. Karen Collins earned the victory in net, and backstopped the Voyageurs to a six point weekend having only surrendered one goal all weekend.
With the win, the Voyageurs are now in eigth place but are only three points away from fourth place in the standings.
