WHKY | Voyageurs Corral Mustangs

The Laurentian Voyageurs played the Western Mustangs this January 26th cold Sudbury Saturday night.

Previously the Mustangs beat Laurentian 6-0 away in London Ontario but Western was in for a surprise at Laurentian's home barn.

The Lady Vees had quite a crowd as it was both the Laurentian Women's Hockey Alumni Day and as well as the Bell Lets Talk event day around the OUA.

The first period held all of the action for the Lady Vees and the Mustangs as in a three goal game Laurentian would pot two and trump the Mustangs one.

At 11:54 in the first Carly Olivier busted into the Mustang zone drawing in the defenders she then moved the puck to Taylor Weber who then fed Julia Giannitsopoulos for a shot that would beat the shoulder of Carmen Lasis on the power play, all in all making for a 1-0 game in favour of the Voyageurs.

Just three minutes later Gabby Jex scored her second goal of the season as she used her strong finishing presence to beat Lasis for the second time with the help of Julia Giannitsopoulos and Madison Heeny.

Brooke Dicicco took the Western offensive attack into her own hands as she beat Karen Collins in the first period with just eleven seconds left in the first period.

The late Western goal would be the one and only goal to be Karen Collins as other then that one goal Collins would be the game's MVP with thirty-three saves in the game.

The second and third periods would be resultless as both teams would be unable to beat the respective goaltender and leave the match at a 2-1 win for Laurentian.

Laurentian will play the Windsor Lancers  tomorrow, January 27th in hopes to gain another win and extend the win streak to two.
