WHKY | Voyageurs Win Crucial Game Against Mustangs
The Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team travelled down to London, Ontario this weekend to play the Western Mustangs.

After beating Laurier in their last game Vees would look to start a win streak this weekend. The Mustangs entered the weekend holding down the last playoff spot, 7 points ahead of the Voyageurs.

With only one goal in the first two periods of the game the Voyageurs would come into the third with an advantage on the scoreboard. Natalie Lamarche would be accredited her third goal of the season ten minutes into the first as she beat Tareya Webster for a 1-0 lead. Megan Arnott and Julia Giannitsopoulos would be given the assists.

Regan Toltesi would score her first goal of the season on Webster and as well open the scoring in the third period. Toltesi's goal would give the Voyageurs a 2-0 lead on the Mustangs with five minutes left in the third. Abbey Caldwell would get the assist.

The Mustangs would make a last ditch effort for a tie after Sarah Irwin would score on Shanna Dolighan late in the third period with just fifty-four seconds left. Just down by one, the Mustangs pulled Webster for the extra attacker but the Voyageurs would capitalize once again as Annie Sherdian would score her second on the season.

Dolighan finished the night with 36 saves. The Voyageurs' powerplay unit failed to score on three opportunities, but their penalty killers shut down all three of the Mustangs' chances.

The Voyageurs took the game 3-1, starting a two game win streak. They will play the last-place Windsor Lancers tomorrow for an opportunity at sweeping the weekend.
