WHKY | Gee-Gees Trample Voyageurs

On Friday night, the Voyageurs women's hockey team lost their first exhibition game on home ice to the visiting University of Ottawa Gee-Gees by a score of 5-1.

The Gee Gees opened the scoring at 5:23 of the first period on the power play when Melisa Kingsley beat Romana Kiapesova to take the first lead of the game.

The Gee Gees power play stayed hot as the second period rolled around as they doubled their lead, this time at 2:06 of the second off the stick of Meagan McGaughey.

The Voyageurs cut Ottawa's lead in half early in the third period, however, as Marie-Pierre Pelissou scored an unassisted marker at 2:37 of the third period.

Despite outshooting the Gee Gees 32-25, that would be the closest the Voyageurs would get in the game. Taylor McGaughey scored at 11:18 followed Nikita Boardman ast 13:28, to give the Gee Gees a 4-1 lead. They would go on to add an empty net tally for a final score of 5-1.

The Voyageurs won't be back in action again until Saturday, October 21st, when they open the regular season against the visiting Western Mustangs.
