WHKY | Voyageurs Bested By Warriors in a Shootout

WHKY | Voyageurs Bested By Warriors in a Shootout

The women's hockey team hit the road this weekend for a set of games against the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.

After dropping the first game of the season against the Lakers 3-1, the Vees had something to prove heading down south.

The Laurentian offence would be firing on all cylinders with two goals in the first period by Madison Heeney and Megan Arnott. Heeney's goal would open the scoring in the match just six minutes in. This would be her first goal of the 2019-2020 season and Karissa Hoskin and Natalie Lamarche would pick up the assists. Arnott would give the Vees' their second goal of the game and as well as her first goal of the season with the help of Abbey Caldwell and Michele Weaver-Vitale

The Warriors would rack up three unanswered goals from Clairmont, Burbridge and Pye on Shanna Dolighan late in the first period and through the second. The Voyageurs' Payton Bray would tie the game after sending a rebound out front of the net past Mikayla Schnarr making for a 3-3 game heading into the third.

A third period and seven minutes of overtime would be insufficient in deciding the winner between these two but three rounds of a shootout would be. Regan Toltesi, Morgan McCann and Chelsea Dinnin would be the shooters for the Voyageurs and none would score but the third shooter, Samantha Burbridge, for the Warriors would, giving Waterloo the shootout win.

The Vees have another opportunity at their first win in the regular season tomorrow, October 26th, against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
