WHKY | Goals 59 Seconds Apart Propels Voyageurs
On Sunday afternoon, the Voyageurs beat the UOIT Ridgebacks 3-2 to secure a 6 point weekend to kick off the new year.

The first period was scoreless despite the Vees outshooting the Ridgebacks 18-11.

The Ridgebacks scored first in the second frame at 8:30 when Jillian Banks beat Shanna Dolighan to go up 1-0.  The Vees responded quickly, however, by way of Sam Morell who tied things up 32 seconds later on a play assisted by Brooklyn Davis. The second period ended with a 1-1 tie and the Vees outshooting UOIT 26-21.

The Voyageurs jumped out to their first lead of the game at 11:33 of the third when Marie-Pierre Pelissou scored her second goal in as many games, this time short handed. Ellery Veerman and Davis assisted on the play.  The Voyageurs followed up their second goal with a third just 59 seconds later as Taylor Weber picked up a drop pass inside the blueline, split the defenders and slid the puck five-hole on Briar Hughes, putting the Vees up 3-1. Myla McCormick and Sara Habal picked up assists on Weber's goal.  UOIT would get a little closer, as Chelsea Ball scored at 17:00 of the third period. However, that was as close as UOIT would get and the final buzzer would go off, securing the Voyageurs victory.

The victory ended off a two-win weekend for the Voyageurs who began the new year with 6 points and now find themselves two points back of a playoff spot.

The team now heads to Laurier and Western on Saturday and Sunday respectivley.
