MBB | Cudney Commits to Voyageurs

Coach Shawn Swords is excited to announce that Walkerton Riverhawks standout, Ethan Cudney, has committed to join the Voyageurs men's basketball team for the 2020-21 season.

Cudney, a 6' 3" guard, will bring a lot of athleticism into the Ben Avery Gym, having competed in volleyball and high jump throughout his high school career.  It that athleticism that helps Cudney make plays with and without the ball.  "I like to drive the lane kick out and make plays or draw fouls and get to the line.  I feel my biggest impact on the court will be my ability to crash the boards even though I am a guard."

According to Coach Swords, that athleticism fits perfectly into the fast-paced style of game the Voyageurs have become known for, saying, "Ethan plays with lots of energy. He runs the floor well, is very athletic and can shoot the 3.  This should help us keep the tempo up and space the floor, which will lead to great opportunities for his teammates."

Cudney, a future Criminology major, commented that there were a number of factors that played into his decision to don the blue and gold of the Voyageurs; not the least of which are the abilities of his future coach. "I chose Laurentian over other schools," Cudney said, "because I like the campus, I have some family roots within the city and I like the way Coach Swords operates his team and his approach to making players better.  I am excited and thankful for the opportunity."

For Coach Swords, Cudney's commitment continues a link to the Walkerton area that has proved fruitful in the past. "Ethan comes from a long list of successful student athletes that have come to Laurentian from Bruce County.  We are looking forward to helping him achieve his academic and athletic goals. He will be exciting to watch!"
