MBB - Lakers triumph over Voyageurs to conclude first half of the season

On Saturday night, the men's basketball team welcomed the Nipissing Lakers to conclude the first half of the season. The Lakers won the match 100-69.
In the first quarter, Daniel Muila put Laurentian on the board with a layup, followed by a 3-point shot by Cedric Mbiaba. Halfway through, Kamil Dia Hantchi scored a jump shot and a 3-pointer, while Keenan Morain scored two free throws. The Voyageurs were trailing the Lakers 24-19.
In the second quarter, Hantchi and Muila scored a layup each in the first minute, and the Voyageurs were scoreless until the seventh minute, where a timeout was called by Laurentian. After the timeout, Chikosi Boardi scored a 3-point shot, while Morain scored a layup. Later on, Shamar Forbes scored his first 3-point shot, Hantchi scored another layup and Muila dunked on the Lakers. The Lakers were still ahead 55-39 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, Muila, Mbiaba and Forbes scored a combination of 8 points in the first five minutes. At the third minute mark, Morain scored another layup, followed by a layup from Muila. At this point, the Voyageurs were trailing by 27 points.
In the last ten minutes, Ahmad Cidi-Jalloh scored a 3-point shot at the ninth minute mark to add to the Voyageurs' score. Muila, Hantchi and Cidi-Jalloh scored a combination of 10 points within two minutes, concluding scoring for the Vees, resulting in a 100-69 defeat to conclude the first half of the season.
The standout performers were Daniel Muila with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Kamil Dia Hantchi with 17 points and 5 rebounds, and Cedric Mbiaba with 9 points and 6 rebounds.
The Voyageurs are back in action after Christmas break as they head to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves on January 5th.
