The Laurentian Voyageurs men's basketball team finished their road trip in the nation's capital Saturday night as they took on the Ottawa GeeGees and looked to snap their three game losing streak with an unlikely win against one of the country's best teams.
Right away the Voyageurs got off to a great start. Led by Shawn Bartelemy who put up 12 points in the first quarter Laurentian took the lead early and continued to push the pace all throughout the first quarter coming away with a 22-16 lead at the end of one.
The second quarter ended up being a complete one-eighty. After starting the second quarter well the Voyageurs broke down to end the half as the GeeGees would go on a 17-2 run to end the quarter going into halftime with a lead at 41-34.
The third quarter saw the Voyageurs offense continue to struggle as out of the break Laurentian's field goal shooting sat at just 28%. The shooting struggles along with eight turnovers allowed Ottawa to outscore them 29-11 in the third. This third quarter outburst from the GeeGees opened a massive 25 point lead going into the fourth and virtually sealing the win with ten minutes to go.
Ottawa would add to their lead in the fourth quarter putting up another 20 points and ending the game with a lopsided 90-58 win over the Voyageurs extending Laurentian's losing streak to four games.
The Voyageurs standout performers were Shawn Bartelemy who put up 14 points and three rebounds along with Ismael Konate who had 12 points and five rebounds. \
Laurentian's next game is Friday night when they travel to the Soo taking on the Algoma Thunderbirds with the start time set for 8pm.
