MBB - Voyageurs drop close rematch against Gee-Gees

On Friday night, the men's basketball team played the uOttawa Gee-Gees on the road. The game was a close one, as the Gee-Gees won the match 69-56.

To start off the game, the Gee-Gees scored first, giving them an early lead. Laurentian's Pierre Mukandila and Daniel Muila both scored a jump shot to get them on the board. A minute later, Caillou Lacroix and Mukandila scored a combination of 7 points, equalizing the game for almost a minute. The Voyageurs were scoreless from the third minute until the end of the quarter, with the Gee-Gees in the lead.

In the second quarter, Muila scored an early jump shot, while Lacroix made two free throws. At this point, uOttawa was getting ahead, having a 9-point lead over the Voyageurs. Halfway through, both teams were scoreless for two minutes, until Cedric Mbiaba scored his first two points of the game, and Lacroix made two more free throws. The Voyageurs were trailing 31-19 going into the half.

Coming back from halftime, Mukandila scored first for Voyageurs once again with two jump shots. At the fifth-minute mark, Mukandila made two free throws and Shamar Forbes scored his first two points of the game. With four minutes left in the quarter, Lacroix and Mbiaba accumulated 7 points through of combination of scored baskets. The Gee-Gees were still ahead 51-34.

In the fourth and last quarter, the Voyageurs established offensive cohesion, with Kamil Dia Hantchi scoring a 3-point shot, Lacroix scoring a jump shot and Mukandila scoring two more jump shots within three minutes. Hantchi repeated his successful three-point shot at the sixth- and five-minute mark, helping Laurentian get closer to the Gee-Gees' lead. With less than two minutes to go, Chikosi Boardi and Jason Desjarlais both scored a 3-point shot but unfortunately fell to the Gee-Gees 69-56.

The standout performers were Pierre Mukandila with 15 points and 7 rebounds, Caillou Lacroix with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Kamil Dia Hantchi with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

The Voyageurs are back in action Saturday, as they take on the Carleton Ravens to conclude a weekend on the road. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
