MBB | Voyageurs Use Deep Ball to Pull Away from Lions

The Voyageurs welcomed the York Lions for the first game of a rare mid-week double header on Wednesday night and it was outgoing senior, Curtis Gordon, who paced the Voyageurs to a 76-57 victory.

Both teams came firing in the first and connected on a lot of easy shots in the paint. The Voyageurs set the defensive intensity high early, forcing turnovers by the Lions leading to easy layups on odd-man breaks up the floor. In the second quarter, the Voyageurs kept playing a harassing defence, limiting the Lions to only eight points in the quarter.  The ball movement by the Voyageurs was fantastic, allowing wide open shots, as Gordon scored nine of his 21 points in the quarter and single handedly outscored the Lions.

In the third, the Lions were trying to cut away at the deficit, which led them to scoring 20 points in the quarter. The Voyageurs were getting sloppy with the ball, allowing the Lions to create easy points. In the fourth, Laurentian played their best quarter of basketball, scoring 25 points to the Lions 12, and completely controlled all phases of the game. The points were evenly distributed across all starters with terrific off-the-ball movement leading to seven assists by the Voyageurs in the quarter. The final score was 76-57.

The Voyageurs record improves to 5-6 and they play the Lions again tomorrow at 5pm.
