The 9-8 Laurentian Voyageurs matched up against the 9-8 Queen's University Gaels tonight at Queen's University Athletic and Recreation Centre. With identical records, the match was anybody's game, with no clear favourite going in.
But that didn't stop the Voyageurs. Laurentian came racing out of the gate, outworking the Gaels and doubling both their points and rebounds in the initial quarter. This energy was carried into the second, creating a comfortable 18 point lead going into the half point mark,
The Voyageurs were able to maintain this advantage for the remainder of the game, ultimately coming away with the victory 85-72.
Leading the way for Laurentian was third year guard Kadre Gray with 34 points and 8 rebounds. Fourth year guard Haroun Mohamed added 12 points of his own.
Top scorer for the Gaels was Jaz Bains with 34 points.
The Voyageurs will have a week to prepare before they hit the court again, as they face off against their 705 rivals the Nipissing Lakers next Friday at Robert J Surtees Student Athletics Centre.
