MBB - Voyageurs lose to Warriors to close out the weekend
The men's basketball team played the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday night. Despite being more aggressive defensively, the Voyageurs lost the game 64-54.
The game began with a turnover from the Voyageurs, resulting in a layup from the Warriors. Isamel Konate made a free throw to put Laurentian on the board, followed by two free throws by Gaetan Chamand. Daniel Muila scored 6 points to end the quarter, with the Voyageurs being behind 13-10 due to a last minute 3 point shot from the Warriors.
In the second quarter, the Warriors scored first once again, scoring 5 points before Muila netted another jump shot. A few minutes later, Abdulmajid Hassan scored a 3-point shot, which was assisted by Caillou Lacroix, and Konate put his first jump shot on the scoreboard. One minute later, the game got more interesting, as Hassan scored 7 points and Lacroix scored his first 3 pointer, ultimately giving Laurentian the lead. The Voyageurs were leading 33-27 going into the following quarter.
With the momentum on their side, the Voyageurs came back from the half with 3 points made by Kamil Dia Hantchi and 2 points by Muila. The Warriors were quick to answer after every basket, but Laurentian refused to give them easy points. Halfway through the quarter, Lacroix scored a jump shot and Hassan made two free throws, making sure the Voyageurs stay in the lead. While the Warriors scored a few points to only have a one-point difference to tie the Voyageurs, Konate added 2 more points to give them a bit of a cushion going into the last quarter, 47-45.
In the last quarter, the Warriors tied the game thirty seconds in, and took the lead shortly after. The Voyageurs' offence could not get organized, as they were scoreless until the fifth minute, where Lacroix made three free throws. Chamand and Muila scored a combination of 4 points to conclude scoring on the Voyageurs' side, leading to a 64-54 defeat against the Warriors.
The standout performers were Daniel Muila with 12 points and 9 rebounds, Abdulmajid Hassan with 11 points and Ismael Konate with 11 points also and 11 rebounds.
The men are back in action in the Ben Avery on Friday, November 24th, as they host the Carleton Ravens at 8pm.
