The men's basketball team began their home opening weekend when they hosted the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night.  Despite playing the Gee-Gees tough in three quarters, a big second quarter by the #2 ranked team in the country provided them with more than enough cushion en route to a 79-53 win.

The game started strong for the Voyageurs as they held an 11-5 lead halfway through the first quarter, however, six straight possessions that ended with turnovers allowed the visitors to go on a 9-0 run and take a 19-14 lead into the second.  The Gee-Gees found their range in the second, shooting 8-13 in the quarter, including 4-7 from three, as they out-paced the Voyageurs 24-10 in the period.

Staring at a 43-24 deficit entering the second half, the Voyageurs battled the Gee-Gees hard in the next two quarters, playing them to within three and four points, respectively, but the 19-point deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the men fell 79-53.

Coban Scott once again paced the Voyageurs with 17 points while Caillou Lacroix added 16 in the loss.  The Voyageurs will look to rebound tomorrow night when they host the Carleton Ravens to close out their weekend. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm in the Ben Avery Gym.
