MBB | Voyageurs Escape With A Win Against The Warriors

The Voyageurs survived a late charge from the Warriors as they came out with a win by a score of 85-80 on Friday night.

The Voyageurs started strong. They shot 41.7% from the field and restricted their opponents to just 25.8% shooting in the first half. They outscored the Warriors in both quarters and held an 11-point lead going into the second half. Leading the way for the Voyageurs were veteran guards Sam Ivey with 13 points and Haroun Mohamed with seven points. On the other hand, the Warriors were led by Simon Petrov with seven points and Nedim Hodzic with six points.

In the third quarter, the Voyageurs continued what they did earlier in the match that made them so successful. But to the Warriors' credit they initiated their charge and came within striking distance of the Voyageurs. The Voyageurs only outscored the Warriors by just one point in the third and held an eight point lead going into the fourth quarter.

But, the fourth proved to be the most wildest, entertaining quarter the Voyageurs have played so far this season. At 7:32 minute mark of the quarter, the Voyageurs successfully opened a 16-point lead but soon after, at the 4:41 minute mark, the situation began to change. Thomas Keul from the Warriors made a free throw and then drained a jump shot following their next possession to begin the Warriors' charge. The Warriors went on a 19-7 run to cut the lead to just two points with only 20 seconds remaining in the match. But following this run, the Voyageurs stepped up their defensive intensity and forced a couple of missed shots and one turnover that lead the Warriors' to intentionally foul in order to gain back possession but it was too little too late at that point as the Voyageurs escaped with a 90-85 victory.

The Voyageurs will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow at 6 pm at the Athletic Gym Complex when they take on the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.
