After extending their win streak to 4 consecutive games Friday night the Laurentian Voyageurs men's basketball team would finish their roadtrip with a game against the McMaster Marauders Saturday in Hamilton.

Saturday night's game began in a similar fashion to the previous night matchup as the Voyageurs immediately jumped out of the gates firing on all cylinders. The starters played a key role in the first ten minutes as all 26 first quarter points were scored by the starting 5. The defense was also outstanding with the Voyageurs out rebounding the Marauders 16-4 in the first leading to a 26-13 lead after one.

The second quarter story was the turnovers that the Voyageurs forced their opponents into. All in all 6 turnovers were committed by the home team leading to multiple fast break points and allowing the Vees to extend their lead to 21 going into half.

As both teams came back out for the third quarter it seemed like scoring for both sides stalled with neither side really being able to get any consistent shooting over the course of the third. In the end after a tough third quarter for both teams it would be Laurentian who would go into the final 10 minutes leading by a score of 63-40.

The fourth quarter saw the Marauders put up a total of 24 points but for Laurentian it was all about keeping their opponents at arms length throughout the rest of the game. With an established lead already in place going into the fourth the 24 points given up would not be anywhere near enough to overcome the large deficit McMaster faced as Laurentian would go on to win 83-64.

The overall performance from the Voyageurs was formidable with the starting 5 especially having fantastic performances. All 5 ended with 10+ points and the pick of the bunch was a 12 points 12 rebound night from Nginyu Ngala with the Voyageurs record improving to 5-2 on the season while continuing to build on what is now a 5 game win streak.

Laurentian is back on the road next weekend when they head south to take on the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs Friday and Saturday night with booth games set to tip-off at 8pm.
