Laurentian men's basketball team hosted their latest opponent Friday night as they faced-off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves, a game in which the Voyageurs would come up short, losing 75-60.

The game started with some stellar defensive plays from both sides. The Voyageurs did a decent job not allowing Lakehead to have any easy looks for the majority of the first quarter. However, poor three point shooting form Laurentian and a strong 7-1 run from the Thunderwolves put them up 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second it was more of the same, Laurentian for the most part held their own against what most would say was a heavily favored Lakehead team. The Voyageurs did not allow a single three-point make from the Thunderwolves in the second quarter; however, they did allow them to go 11-14 inside the arc. That, coupled with Laurentian's poor free throw shooting in the first half, only making 3-8 attempts, meant that Lakehead had extended their lead to 39-27 at half.

It was overall a frustrating night for Laurentian as they continued to put in their best effort with what seemed like nothing to show for it. It was almost as though every time Laurentian made a big, timely, bucket to cut the lead into single digits, the Thunderbirds countered with a run of baskets of their own. Even though the Voyageurs did hold their own in the third, equaling Lakehead's 21 points, they were still trailing 60-48 entering the fourth.

The beginning of the fourth quarter was the nail in the coffin for Laurentian. After they had cut the lead to just 9 with seven minutes to play, Lakehead would go on a 12-0 run midway through the quarter to ice the game by a final score of 75-60.

The game's standout player for Laurentian was Caillou Lacroix who put up 22 points. Lacroix now has seven 20-plus point performances including a run of four straight games with at least 21 points.

The Voyageurs go again Wednesday night when they take a trip to Guelph to take on the Gryphons with tip-off set for 8pm.
