After a loss to Algoma in the preseason, the Voyageurs were eager to take the rematch, this time in Thunderbird territory.
With a strong showing in the initial quarter where Laurentian outscored Algoma 20-13, they were well on their to securing the win. However, the Thunderbirds fought back in the following quarters ultimately sending the game into overtime.
After a competitive OT and a 3 point shot from Laurentian guard Sam Ivey at the end of the shot clock late in the extra frame, the Voyageurs ultimately came away with the victory 86-85.
Top contributor for Laurentian was third year guard Kadre Gray who earned a double double with his 29 points and 11 rebounds. First year Joseph Hlady at 15 points and 7 rebounds of his own in his 34 minutes of game time.
Leading scorer for the Thunderbirds was Nathan Riley with 25 points.
The Voyageurs will have a one day rest before they're back on the road to take on the Gryphons at the University of Guelph on Sunday at 3pm.
