MBB | Voyageurs Let One Slip Away Against Laurier
The Laurentian University Men's Basketball team entered their final weekend of the fall looking to snap their four game losing streak on the road. In their Friday night game against the OUA West leading Laurier Golden Hawks the Voyageurs let one slip away, falling 81-75.
In a first half in which the Vee's built themselves a lead as high as 18 points, it was Kadre Gray would led the charge with 15 points in his 9 minutes in the opening two periods. Laurier struggled early in the game to get anything going on offense shooting a mere 31.1%. Laurentian saw an opportunity and struck with a fast paced attack in the paint. Late in the second quarter the Golden Hawks found their offensive stride closing the half by cutting the lead to six.
Following the break the Vee's stumbled on offense to the tune of a 30.8 shooting percentage in the second half. It was now the Golden Hawks' turn to take advantage of their adversary's poor shooting. Guard Tevaun Kokko put Laurier on his back pouring in 19 of his 29 points in the final two quarters. With their first lead since the opening minutes of the game, the Golden Hawks were able to hold of the Voyageurs from completing their third late fourth quarter comeback of the year.
Gray finished with a team high 21 points for the Vee's while Nelson Yengue added a 13 point, 13 rebound double-double to the team's losing effort.
The Voyageurs will wrap up their fall schedule tomorrow against the Waterloo Warriors (1-5) hoping to go into the break on a high note. The action gets started tomorrow in Waterloo at 8PM.
