WSOC | Voyageurs Ground Ravens, Unbeaten in 7

Coming off of a hard-fought tie the day before, the Voyageurs women's soccer team was looking to get back into the win column on Sunday.  A dominant opening 45 minutes from the squad would ensure that happened as they ran away from the Carleton Ravens 3-0.

Just eight minutes into the game, Kristy Walton earned a free kick outside of the 18-yard box, roughly 10 yards from the end line.  Her low entry into the box was met by Catherine Rocca, who fired a shot on goal.  The Ravens' Rada Minchev made a great save but the rebound fell to Megan Chiovitti, who made no mistake into the open net.

Just 10 minutes later, after more sustained pressure, a hand ball in the area led to a Sarah Sanford penalty kick and the team leader in goals made no mistake, rifling a shot into the top corner.  The onslaught continued in the 37th minute when Caitlin McNamara's clearing kick bounced once in front of Sanford who ran onto the ball and, on the half-volley from outside the area, beat Minchev to push the lead to 3-0.

The Voyageurs sat back in the second half, allowing the Ravens some opportunities but McNamara was there to close the door at each turn to earn her 5th shutout of the year.

The women now head to UOIT on Saturday for a date with the undefeated Ridgebacks.
