WSOC | Voyageurs Shutout by #2 Ridgebacks

The Voyageurs women's soccer team opened up a big series at home this weekend as they close out the regular season schedule with only two points separating the fourth to sixth place teams in the OUA East Division. Saturday's matchup saw the Voyageurs generate many offensive chances early and often, but the UOIT Ridgebacks, currently ranked #2 in the latest U Sports rankings, shut the door and took the victory 2-0.

The Voyageurs didn't take long to put the pressure on the Ridgebacks when just a minute and a half into the game, Brianne Rodrigue sent a corner kick in front of the net leading to a scramble and a reactionary save from the keeper to deny a Laurentian tally. The Voyageurs kept the pressure up throughout the half including a free kick opportunity in the 32nd minute which put the keeper out of position, but the Ridgebacks defense was able to clear it before it made it to the back of the net. Voyageurs goalkeeper, Caitlin McNamara was equal to the task as she came up with some key saves to keep the score knotted at 0-0.

The Ridgebacks responded to the Voyageurs offensive pressure when Nicole Zajac found the back of the net in the 34th minute for her sixth of the season to put UOIT up 1-0. The Voyageurs continued with the pressure but again, the Ridgebacks responded with their second of the game, thanks to Cassandra Sribny's seventh of the season, putting the Ridgebacks up 2-0. That would be all of the scoring that would take place for the remainder of the game, as the Voyageurs could not put one past Ridgebacks goalkeeper, Victoria Savage who made seven saves in the game.

The Voyageurs are back at it tomorrow in their final regular season matchup against the Trent Excalibur. Game time is set for 12pm.
