The Laurentian Voyageurs Women's Soccer team began the second weekend of September with a trip down Highway 17 to face off against their northern rival, the Nipissing Lakers, in North Bay.

Things got off to a shaky start as just 9 minutes into play the Lakers managed to convert on early pressure to lead it 1-0 very early on. The Voyageurs continued to soak up pressure as goalkeeper Hunter Jones made nine total first half saves. However, the Nipissing pressure seemed to be too much as the Lakers managed to tack on three more before the half and saw themselves up 4-0 at the midway point of the match.

In the second half, the Voyageurs continued to struggle to create any type of offense as a frustrating day for Laurentian ended in a 6-0 defeat at the hands of their rivals. With this result, the Lakers take the first leg of this season's 705 Challenge Cup.

Laurentian comes home Saturday afternoon as they look to bounce back against the undefeated Ottawa Gee-Gees with kick-off set for 1pm.
