WSOC | Voyageurs Give Gallo Win in Final Home Game

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's soccer team emphatically beat the RMC Paladins on Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-0 and moved into a playoff spot.

The Voyageurs dominated play from the starting whistle. They had greater possession of the ball and thus, were able to create numerous scoring opportunities; early and often. Their hard work would pay off in the 20th minute off a corner kick when the ball, sent in by Brianne Rodrigue, found Bianca Breiding who deposited it at the back of the net to give Laurentian a one goal lead. The go-ahead goal invigorated the Voyageurs as they looked to add another. To their delight, a few chances later, a free kick from Rachel Sheppard would find the head of Mia de Gasperis who headed the ball past the opposing goalkeeper for a spectacular goal in the 44th minute. The first half would eventually come to an end with the Voyageurs up to two goals to nothing.

Next, the Voyageurs did not let their style or intensity of play decrease due to their two goal buffer in the second half. They continued with their dominating style of play throughout the match and were then successful in finding their third goal, courtesy of first year midfielder Helaina Vansoelen with an assist from another first year midfielder, Elizabeth Anderson. In conclusion, the Voyageurs dominated every aspect of the match and came out on top victorious by a margin of 3-0.

Coach Rob Gallo was quite pleased with his team's performance. "We picked up a very important win 3-0 vs RMC. Bianca, Mia and Helaina score, Caitlin and Heather share the shutout, very good team effort."

The Voyageurs now occupy the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They will now travel to Ryerson on Saturday and hope to solidify their playoff berth. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
