WSOC | Voyageurs Draw Rams

WSOC | Voyageurs Draw Rams

A spirited performance from the Laurentian Voyageurs against the Ryerson Rams on Sunday afternoon was not enough to see them through as the game ended with a scoreless draw.

Even though the Rams had more shots (7) compared to the Voyageurs' two, both sides were pretty evenly matched during the first half. At the 20 minute mark of the match, the Voyageurs created a good goal scoring opportunity but were unable to convert. The rest of the half saw the ball being traded between the two midfields with the Rams mounting slightly more pressure on the Voyageurs defence but were unsuccessful in their numerous attempts. On the contrary, the last five minutes of the half saw the Voyageurs pressing but to no avail.

The Vess came out flying in the second half recording thirteen shots to the Rams' six. They had greater possession of the ball and did not let the intensity in their game dip for any moment the rest of the way. However, the Rams' defence had an answer each time the Voyageurs would surmount an offense, thereby keeping the score 0-0. Towards the end of regular time, the Voyageurs gave it their all with a relentless offensive attack, led Brianne Rodrigue, looking to put one past the goalkeeper but to the agony of the Voyageurs and their fans, she was deemed to be offside and the goal was called off. The offside call would not deter the Vees as they continued their onslaught in the dying minutes, coming oh so close but not close enough.

Coach Gallo praised his team's effort, saying, "We worked hard creating many opportunities but could not finish our chances. The team is trying hard and deserve a better fate."

The Voyageurs will now travel to Oshawa and take on the UOIT Ridgebacks and look to get back in the win column on Saturday at 12 pm.
