WSOC | Voyageurs Blanked by Varsity Blues

WSOC | Voyageurs Blanked by Varsity Blues

The Laurentian Voyageurs dropped a close encounter on Saturday against the Toronto Varsity Blues by a score of 2-0.

It was an even first half between both teams as the Blues only had one more shot on goal attempt and corner kick than the Vees. But, they would also be the only ones successful in finding the back of the net when Miranda Badovinac opened the scoring with an assist from Anna Crone in the 39th minute. Eventually, they would carry this lead into the second half and for the rest of the match as well.

The Voyageurs however, had a better showing in the second compared to the first. They recorded more shots on goal, corner kicks and less saves than the Blues but their lucks would not turn as the ball refused to cross the goal line. On the other hand, Jenny Wolever added to the Voyageurs misery by scoring a beauty of a goal from just outside the penalty box to give the Blues the insurance they vied for.

Nonetheless, the Voyageurs did not go down without a fight. Towards the conclusion of the match, a good cross in from Logan Medeiros found a fellow Vee in front of the net but she was unable to finish. Additionally, Mia de Gasperis and Chantae Robinson both attempted shots on net towards the end for the opening and equalizing goals of their team but both would be unsuccessful in their quests. The match concluded with the Varsity Blues coming out on top by a score of 2-0.

"[The match] didn't go our way. [We need to] work on completing [our] passes and shooting the ball. [We] played well as a team and look forward to tomorrow," said Megan Short about her team's performance and their mindset for tomorrow.

The Voyageurs now sit three points out of a playoff spot and they will surely look to move up on the leaderboard on tomorrow when they host the Ryerson Rams at 12 pm.
