The Voyageurs squared off against the 9th ranked Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday afternoon at James Jerome and dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision.
The Voyageurs began the game with an emphasis on patience as they looked to keep the Varsity Blues' attack at bay and wait for an opportunity of their own. The first half was largely a game of possession with few chances. On those chances, however, Hunter Jones was more than equal to the task, making a pair of diving saves to send the game scoreless into halftime.
Early in the second half, Toronto's Karly Hellstrom found the ball bounce to her feet outside the 18 yard box and she made no mistake, whipping a shot just inside the far post, out of the reach of Jones. The Voyageurs continued to build after the goal and Nat Collicutt had a pair of fantastic strikes from distance but Toronto's Maddy Nardin was able to get her fingertips on the shots and parried them over the cross bar. The Varsity Blues added an insurance marker in extra time and took the game 2-0.
The women will close out their home schedule tomorrow when they host the TMU Bold at James Jerome at 1pm.
